February 26, 2017 – Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
ASH WEDNESDAY IS MARCH 1st – The name dies cinerum (day of ashes) which it bears in the Roman Missal is found in the earliest existing copies of the Gregorian Sacramentary and probably dates from at least the eighth century. On this day all the faithful according to ancient custom are exhorted to approach the altar before the beginning of Mass, and there the priest, dipping his thumb into ashes previously blessed, marks the forehead — or in case of clerics upon the place of the tonsure — of each the sign of the cross, saying the words: “Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return.” The ashes used in this ceremony are made by burning the remains of the palms blessed on the Palm Sunday of the previous year. February 19, 2017 – Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time – Here is what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation beginning in paragraph #1422 “Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion.”

January 28, 2017 – Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Ordinary doesn’t mean unimportant, dull, boring, or bland. Simply, ordinary time is anytime outside the liturgical seasons of Advent & Christmas, Lent and Easter. That’s why this season is called ordinary, because it has no special name like the others do. (Catholicism for Dummies by Rev. Trigilio, PhD, ThD & Rev. Brighenti, PhD)
January 22, 2017 – Third Sunday in Ordinary Time – Ordinary Time is called “ordinary” not because it is common but simply because the weeks of Ordinary Time are numbered. The Latin word ordinalis, which refers to numbers in a series, stems from the Latin word ordo, from which we get the English word order. (catholicism.about.com)
